Crews were called at around 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 28 to the 500 block of East 26th Street near Greenmount Avenue in the Harwood neighborhood, officials said.

When they arrived at the scene, firefighters were met by “very heavy fire conditions” coming out the back of the residence, which quickly spread to nearby homes, prompting a second alarm.

Most of the buildings involved in the fire were reportedly vacant. No injuries were initially reported.

Officials cautioned that there is a risk the building could collapse due to the extensive smoke, fire, and water damage sustained on Monday.

The cause of the fire remains unclear.
